I have a lot of tee shirts; I collect them almost like art prints. Most of my favorite tees come from either Threadless or Design By Humans. They're all awesome, really, but right now I particularly love this one:
Today is Blog Action Day! Take action by posting about the environment in your own way
I don't have anything prepared specifically for Blog Action Day -- if you follow East of the Sun, you probably already know my feelings on the environment -- but I wanted to make sure to take advantage of the chance to advocate for one of my favorite causes.
I can't say I have any recent photos that fit the theme, so here are some from a beach trip this summer:
"Bird Brains" ended up being an edition of six, plus two proofs and this one. All were printed in black oil-based ink on cream BFK Rives paper. The hand-coloring on the print I've posted was done with Prismacolor pencils.*
*in a dark room with multiple strobe lights going. It came out pretty well, considering.
Just as I've figured out the upload issue, another problem presents itself: my camera's battery has gone missing. It's not expensive to replace, but until I get a new one I will not be able to take or import new photos. Argh.
Anyway, here s something I happened to have uploaded to my FirstClass account already: the rough sketch for my first printmaking project:
As you can see, it's backwards. I didn't draw it that way, but it was flipped in Photoshop before I started transferring it to the block (it'll be cut into cherry-faced plywood). Our assignment was to take a piece from a historical printmaker and re-interpret. I chose Thomas Bewick, illustrator of a couple of British bird guides.
